The most widely used pump in drilling production is the reciprocating mud pump. It is a positive displacement pump consisting of two main parts: the power end and the hydraulic end. The power end is composed of a crank connecting rod mechanism, a crosshead, and other mechanical transmission components. The hydraulic end is composed of a pump head body, cylinder liner, piston or plunger, safety valve, air chamber, suction valve, and discharge valve.

Description

The mud pump valve plays an important role in the normal operation of the pump and is an important component of the mud pump. To ensure the normal operation of the mud pump, it is required that the pump valve has good sealing and avoids severe impact when closed. The movement should be smooth, with low noise, sufficient strength and stiffness, and durable.

Structure

The working principle of a reciprocating mud pump is that the piston moves back and forth in the cylinder liner, forming a change in the volume of the hydraulic cylinder. When suction increases the volume of the hydraulic cylinder, the pressure inside the chamber decreases, and the liquid in the water tank enters the cylinder through the suction valve pushed open by the suction pipe under the pressure difference; When the volume of the squeezing cylinder decreases, the liquid in the cylinder is compressed, the pressure inside the chamber increases, the suction valve closes, and the discharge valve opens. The liquid is discharged from the cylinder and enters the pipeline, continuously circulating to achieve suction or discharge of the liquid. Each working chamber of the hydraulic cylinder is equipped with a suction valve and a discharge valve, collectively referred to as a pump valve. In actual production, for the convenience of interchangeability and maintenance, the suction and discharge valves are usually made into identical structures.

There are various types of pump valve structures, including self weight ball valves for low-pressure and low flow pumps, flat valves and disc valves for medium and high pressure pumps, etc. A ball valve generally consists of a valve seat, valve ball, sound-absorbing gasket, limit device, etc. The limit device is a valve cover or limit sleeve, which is used to limit the lift of the pump valve. A disc valve generally consists of a valve seat, valve disc, valve body, spring, and limit sleeve. The lift of a pump valve is controlled by the limit sleeve or valve cover.

Type

1. The disc valve is sealed by the conical surface contact between the valve disc and the metal surface of the valve seat. In addition to sealing, the valve disc also plays a buffering role in the impact when the valve body is seated. The spring on the pump valve is used to establish a load on the valve, ensuring timely closure of the valve. In order to control the movement of the valve disc and ensure a stable and accurate seating, a guiding device is also installed on the valve body.

The structure of the valve is relatively complex, with many parts, multiple manufacturing processes, and high costs, but its performance is excellent. The disc valve has the characteristics of good sealing, smooth movement, low noise, and durability, and is commonly used in high flow and high pressure mud pumps.

2. Ball valves usually use hollow valve balls to reduce weight and meet the performance requirements of mud pumps. They have the characteristics of simple structure, easy maintenance and disassembly, good universality and interchangeability, and low cost of use. They are generally used in mud pumps with small flow rates and low pressure.
