Gate valve is a common form of valve in API 6D valves, which achieves flow switching by lifting the barrier (gate) out of the fluid path. When fully opened, flat gate valve hardly restricts the flow of fluid and is widely used in oil fields and industry.

Description

Gate valves are usually used to shut off the flow of liquid, rather than for flow regulation. When the valve is fully open, there are barely no obstacles in the flow path, so the flow resistance is also very low.

Principle

The opening and closing component of a flat gate valve is the gate, and the movement direction of the gate is perpendicular to the direction of the fluid. The gate valve can only be fully open and fully closed, and cannot be adjusted or throttled. 

The gate has two sealing surfaces forming a wedge shape. The wedge angle varies with the valve parameters. The gate plate of the wedge gate valve can be made into a whole, called a rigid gate plate. 

It can also be made into a gate that can produce slight deformation to improve its processability and compensate for the deviation of the sealing surface angle during the processing. This type of gate is called an elastic gate.

Application

The API 6D gate valve produced by Sunrise is suitable for pipelines with ANSI Class150~2500, PN20~42, JIS 10~20K, and operating temperatures of -29~425 ℃ (carbon steel) and -40~500 ℃ (stainless steel). It is used to cut off or connect the medium in the pipeline. By selecting different materials, American standard carbon steel gate valves and stainless steel American standard gate valves can be suitable for various media such as water, steam, oil, nitric acid, acetic acid, strong oxidizing media, and urea.
